myah – the lobby (2024)
Elegant and eloquent but with raw innocence, singer-songwriter myah weaves sophisticated sounds, poetic lyricism and burning passion into her music. She captures core emotions and then laces the intricate themes with intimate storytelling not only resonating with listeners but also offering comforting solace. This might not be our introduction to the US-based musician; however, it is another track to astound, intrigue and add something entirely new to our playlist. Come with us as we delve into myah’s new single, ‘the lobby’.
Following her well-received singles ‘familiar’ and ‘flames’, myah continues with a signature indie-pop vibe in her new track. The thing is, while ‘flames’ and ‘familiar’ are as poignant, ‘the lobby’ shifts from soothing indie-pop to weightier pop-rock tones. For me, at least, this heavier vibe showcases a more aggressive, angry, angsty side to myah, yet softness lingers beneath the rock-tinged melody.
Recorded and produced by Tripped N Sat, ‘the lobby’ is filled with crashing drums, a bold bass and soaring guitars – in fact, you can imagine a band performing this hard-hitting tune at Warped Tour. Confident and spunky, audiences can pump their hands and sing along; however, the delicate hit of vulnerability adds profoundness to ‘the lobby’. A song about relationships and the complexity of break-ups, ‘the lobby’ finds sonic duality lacing vulnerability with empowerment. myah explains:
“’the lobby’ is a dual breakup anthem and commentary on Hollywood. There’s this idea that if you aren’t famous or known you don’t have value and can’t make a splash, which really isn’t true. A bunch of indie filmmakers and musicians made this song and video come to life without a label or massive budget or any big names attached. I think that’s really important for people to see.”
Sincere, insightful and reflective, ‘the lobby’ is a refreshing social commentary on Hollywood captured through myah’s quality storytelling. My favourite part has to be the chuckle at the end – so sweet and filled with such cheekiness. I cannot wait to hear what else myah has in store.
In addition to the single, myah released an official music video for ‘the lobby’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
