myah – notice you (2024)

Unafraid to approach the spectrum of emotions, singer-songwriter myah weaves her profound poems of vulnerability, excitement, wonderment, fragility, shock, joy, and everything else in her intimate melodies. Hailing from South Florida, the US-based musician may appear an “emo kid”, but her style and sound are far more than that. With inspiration from Modest Mouse, Twenty-One Pilots and Sylvan Esso, there is a flood of pop-rock and pop-punk coursing through her… then again, an obscure uniqueness lies atop the old-school tones giving myah an insatiable edginess. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘notice you’.

While this is not our introduction to myah – her single ‘now or never’ on our indie-pop Spotify playlist – ‘notice you’ brings another facet to her repertoire. One might consider the twinkles of pop woven into old-school pop-punk and pop-rock to be a signature sound, yet each track myah releases holds a distinguishing variety highlighting her innovative, not-to-be-pigeonholed sound. Following a heavily pop-driven haze of music in ‘i’ll be your light’, ‘notice you’ inserts the charm of vintage pop-rock in its melody.

Recorded and produced by Brian Squillace, ‘notice you’ is a sophisticated blend of bold drums, powerful guitars and slips of keyboard synth-ily splashed on the sonic canvas. While myah teeters on the edge of a hard-hitting burst of rock with pounding, scorching instruments, the single is harmonic with pop-rock elegance. Not Green Day or Paramore, but a mild flutter of Avril Lavigne with Cristina Perri sentiments clings to the single.

The melody is a toe-tapping one wrapping listeners in a comfortable blanket of sound; however, it is myah’s vocals that caress you with a secure hand while bringing out a delicate sense of vulnerability – not bad, but that good vulnerability when you lay your emotions bare and smile. Sitting and chatting with a best mate, myah found the soundtrack to a jovial road trip sharing secrets with your friends and loving every second.

“’notice you’ is a feel-good summer pop song… it feels like the 2010s and that’s the whole point – to take you back to when things were just a bit simpler and a bit sweeter…” – myah on ‘notice you’
