myah – flames (2024)
You know that feeling of excitement when you come across a new musician, then hit the “play” button and fall instantly in love – that’s myah. Entirely insatiable and intoxicating, the US-based singer-songwriter drags together pop and rock within a melting pot of sound. Pushing angsty, melancholy emo angst through a pop-inspired veil, her tracks are toe-tapping, jovial, and bouncy but heavier in her stabs of rock. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘flames’.
Following her well-received single ‘hurricane’, ‘flames’ is another life-inspired, genre-diverse, innovative rush of original music. Known for emotional, poetic lyricism capturing the heart of humanity, myah’s music turns internal using a personal narrative to connect with listeners on a deeper level. Her single ‘notice you’ tapped into the desire to go “…back to when things were just a bit simpler and a bit sweeter…”, ‘flames’ delves into that intricate area of relationships.
Produced by Brian Squillace, myah shifts from the insanity of her indie-pop ‘hurricane’ to a softer, soothing, gentler flood of alternative pop. As soulful guitars match bold drums with foggy synths fluttering through the melody, listening to ‘flames’ is like moving from cloud to cloud in a kaleidoscopic sonic sky. A slight piercing beat bounces in as the melody plays; however, no sting is really felt with myah’s warm vocals wrapping you in a comfortable blanket. Interestingly, while the smooth tune has you floating with a grin on your face, the song itself is one of despair. myah explains:
“’flames’ is a love song about a relationship ending because their partner has an avoidant attachment style – they convinced themselves that they weren’t worthy of love, and they can’t see it any other way. It’s a plea to stay together, but the dark thoughts are too great.”
In addition to streaming the single on Spotify, myah released an audio video for ‘flames’ on YouTube. You can view the video below or on her official YouTube channel... and be sure to listen to view more of her videos while you’re there.
