My Latest Failure – Bad Dreams (2022)

Inspired by artists like Sum 41, Nirvana, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Blink 182, A Day To Remember and Of Mice and Men, My Latest Failure is a very loud, hard-hitting, “punch you in the face” rock band. Featured in blogs like Thoughts Words Action, Life Is A Lemon, The Sounds Won’t Stop and various playlists, My Latest Failure is reaching audiences across the globe. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Bad Dreams’.

Described by Life Is A Lemon and Abandon Magazine as a hardcore-influenced punk band, Chris Underhill (guitar and vocals), Andy Hale (bass and vocals) and Jamie Boyle (drums) are making a bold statement with their music. Following their 2021 EP Failures, Vol:2, My Latest Failure brings us just under four minutes of blistering guitars and pounding drums in ‘Bad Dreams’. Like a watered-down Sum 41 with a tinge of A Day To Remember, ‘Bad Dreams’ has a hard-hitting nature; however, it comes together in a melodic punk tune.

I guess you are asking yourself how punk can be melodic. Think about it, in ‘Bad Dreams’ the powerful instrumentation melds harmoniously within the arrangement. Add the bold, almost screaming vocals and you have a hardcore punk song with a contemporary slant in its distortion. Interestingly enough, while this might be a watered-down Sum 41, ‘Bad Dreams’ is confident with a unique sound that is purely My Latest Failure.

One of the first songs penned as My Latest Failure, ‘Bad Dreams’ was originally recorded with Ross Walker from Sore Teeth in 2019, but it didn’t make it onto Failures Vol:2. Instead it remained that “missing piece” until its release in 2022. The band share that ‘Bad Dreams’ was inspired by Brand New and “was heavily influenced by the post-hardcore music style…it is about a person standing on the edge contemplating life and not seeing any other way apart from jumping off…”

Brash, abrupt and perfect for headbanging, ‘Bad Dreams’ might be about nightmares, but it fits in beautifully with my best dreams. I highly recommend you listen to this and the rest of My Latest Failure’s repertoire.
