Munk Duane – We’ve Talked About This Before (2024)
Threading honest, warm and sometimes difficult words through bold but moving melodies, Munk Duane is an artist finds the balance between comfort and concerning in his songs. Penned, performed and produced by Duane, with mastering by Brian Lucey, ‘We’ve Talked About This Before’ is a sophisticated melody littered with raw vulnerability. The light-hearted melody offers a toe-tapping laidback vibe in a kaleidoscopic soundscape. Yet, despite the chilled-out groove, the more poignant theme rises to the surface in gritty vocals and powerful lyrics. Duane explains:
“The new song highlights the difficulty of dealing with loved ones as they age and leaning into new expressions of love through patience. Conversation loops become common place, especially with dementia patients. They become stuck on repeat and frequently address the same topic multiple times in a single conversation. The new song is about trying to see the loop like a needle skipping on your favourite song and just allowing it to play out like it’s the first time you’ve heard the story, because sadly it may soon be the last…”
Rich and comfortable with genuine warmth, but also confronting in its blunt honesty, ‘We’ve Talked About This Before’ is a delicate exposition of human patience, resilience and fragility – difficult to hear but divine to listen to.
