Mundo Park – Je T’aime (2021)

Performing at Eurosonic, Concertgebouw and Oerol, Dutch indie-rock group Mundo Park is known for energetic and engaging shows. Releasing their debut album in 2017, the then quintet gained a reputation for their endearing sound, but the fivesome did not last for long. Soon after the release, the band members “went their own ways” leaving fans without any Mundo Park. Now, after some soul-searching, Mundo Park is a powerful indie-rock trio producing all of their music themselves.

Featured on Roadie Music, Talk About Pop Music, Chalkpit Records, Rising Artists Blog, Eat This Metal and various radio stations, the veteran artists are reaching an international audience. We introduce you to this Dutch threesome with their single ‘Je T’aime’.

I am not one to compare bands but if you need a “reference” of sorts, Mundo Park’s ‘Je T’aime’ lies between Weezer and Tame Impala. A guitar-driven single, ‘Je T’aime’ has a typical indie-rock style; however, it is far more fun and languid than anything Oasis could cook up. With an infectious toe-tapping ambience, the smooth guitars and drums meld beautifully with the mellow vocals. It is as if you are trapped in a comfortable bubble of joy with a candy-floss pink blanket about you – sugary sweet but so worth the calories.

So, now we know about the soothing melody but what about the lyricism? Surely it is as sugary sweet with pink sprinkles? Well, yes and no. Definitely a lighthearted track, Mundo Park share that the song is about searching for love in the most beautiful places. The lads describe ‘Je T’aime’ as being “…on holiday in the Cote d’Azur. Cruising through the streets of Monaco, lounging on the beaches of Cannes, drinking Dom Perignon and swimming in the Mediterranian Sea looking for love. Night and night again.”

While there is a chilled vibe to the harmonic tune, I like to believe that there is something underlying the whimsical song. A very nice single speaking about the excitement of looking for romance, however, there is also an undertone of vulnerability. It is as if the person is giggling about their wonderful experiences but hiding a yearning behind the smile. Teetering on the cusp of innocent whimsy and sentimental reflection, I find ‘Je T’aime’ to be one of my favourite songs this summer! I can’t wait to listen to the rest of their album MMXXI.
