Muca & La Marquise – Devil’s Dance (2020)

We have many artists to which we return with more features, but Muca & La Marquise has to be one of my favourites. Embracing the unique lifestyle of their current “hometown” London – that’s in England to be exact – Muca and his muse fuse compelling melodies with contemporary culture. With a reputation for intriguing singles, the jazz duo is gaining a strong following across the globe with features from Listen To Discover and Essentially Pop (among others). The talented duo continues their musical journey with ‘Devil’s Dance’.

Falling in the realm of Amy Winehouse’s jazz meets pop world, Muca & La Marquise’s ‘Devil’s Dance’ is a toe-tapping triumph. Incorporating the buoyancy of pop, but with the soulful streak of jazz, the single is captivatingly evocative. A rather simple melody with basic acoustic guitar and percussion underlying moving vocals, ‘Devil’s Dance’ is not exactly hitting the rafters with power or raw force; however, it is the simplicity that increases the sincerity and endearment of the single.

While I love almost every element of the singles, it is the vocals that truly grab my attention. I might similar them to the iconic Amy Winehouse with some Norah Jones thrown in, but the dulcet tones are far too distinctive for a full comparison. Buoyant and cheerful, Muca & La Marquise showcase not necessarily a complete evolution in sound, but definitely the honing of their unique style. Overall, I just love the impassioned ‘Devil’s Dance’ and would happily sway along to this earworm of a track.
