Moxy One – Never Break Up (2021)

If The Strokes were to have McFly but it was raised by Green Day, the chances are Moxy One would be the kid. Placing insightful lyrics over heartwarming melodies, The group has a serene, smooth and quite infectious sound. Despite ‘Never Break Up’ being his debut single, the Bristol-based artist has received critical acclaim from YMX, Edgar Allen Poets, Less Than 1000 Followers and Mystic Sons…now, we’re taking a look at Moxy One.

Nodding at 90s pop-rock with a strong indie-rock flavour, ‘Never Break Up’ is filled with upbeat joviality. Serene and flowing, the jangle-pop guitars, steady drums and rich vocals bring summertime vibes to the iciness of winter. In fact, the charming buoyancy of ‘Never Break Up’ dispels any iciness making the sun shine through the grey clouds.

Yes, the melody instantly places you in a comfort blanket of sound but it is Mike Chancellor’s vocals that enchant a person. Reminiscent of Billy Joe Armstrong, his dulcet tones are bold but with a bit of a gritty edge. Touching on the highs and lows of long-term relationships, ‘Never Break Up’ exposes the fragility of the human soul with a lingering optimism. Reflective and introspective, the poetic lyricism and soaring vocals effortlessly captivate your heart.

Anthemic, hypnotic and soul-stirring, ‘Never Break Up’ is a kaleidoscopic representation of pure emotion. I can’t wait for more from Moxy One.
