MOVMENT – I Believe In Noise (2023)
Inspired by life in its entirety, the Irish band MOVMENT express the depths of reality in their powerful, profound music. Review-wise, we last delved into MOVMENT’s melodies with the single ‘We All Must Go’. A bold challenge to dystopian society, ‘We All Must Go’ was a theme song for Orwell’s 1984. Now, they hit our virtual pages again with the single ‘I Believe In Noise’ – a hard-hitting track where MOVMENT seek knowledge in the gritty post-punk sound. Come with us as we delve into the new single with an apprehensive and intrigued attitude.
Following their well-received single ‘Violence’, ‘I Believe In Noise’ is MOVMENT’s first release in 2023. Another in-your-face single, ‘I Believe In Noise’ retains the corrosive ferocity of MOVMENT’s now signature sound. Yet, just as it is as powerful as previous material with scorching rage, a softer, smoother and mellifluous quality drifts into the arrangement. Incensed with a murmur of chaos and angst, the melody is as heavy as always; however, a methodical clarity harmonically binds each element without any damning overlap of bold instruments.
From Mark Kelly’s bold bassline to Kevin Kelly’s keyboards, and Isabella Rowden Kelly’s crashing guitars with pounding drums from Martin Kelly, the recording is rambunctious but simplistic in its own way. Travelling through the well-textured arrangement, Martin Kelly’s rich vocals are an anchor in an obscure melody.
MOVMENT are known for their straightforward bluntness and ‘I Believe In Noise’ captures the “tell it like it is” sentimentality. A song “about the impact of sound, music and noise in our body’s existence and how they affect our moods and direction in life…”, ‘I Believe In Noise’ is a sonic collective of each mood, each thought, each opinion clipped with a need for wisdom and enlightenment.
In addition to the single, MOVMENT released an official music video for ‘I Believe In Noise’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
