Mouse Man – The Birth (2023)

From the depths of the murky internet music world, may I introduce Mouse Man! Naming himself as “the second most famous French mouse after Ratatouille”, Mouse Man is slowly creeping across the indie music scene. With only three singles to his name, the singer-songwriter might be considered a newbie in the scene; however, this emerging artist is turning heads on an international scale from France to Brazil, the UK and the USA. Come with us as we delve into his critically acclaimed discography.

Following the well-received singles ‘Riot In Ordered Turmoil (R.I.O.T)’ and ‘Spurious Santa’, ‘The Birth’ is Mouse Man’s first release in two years. An eclectic blend of punk rock with indie-rock tipped with a funk kick, the single is ferocious but simultaneously smooth and soothing. Flitting from brash punk tones to a mellifluous swoop of harmonic guitars and then back again, the production of ‘The Birth’ is sophisticated and elegant.

One aspect I find intriguing in this production is how the tumultuous punk movements are raw and intense, but the transition to cool rock takes you down with ease…then up again to tumultuous intensity. Up and down, light and heavy, fearsome and reassuring, breathless and refreshing, Mouse Man oscillates between the dark and lighter side of emotion in ‘The Birth’.

The melody is enough to keep you captivated, but Mouse Man’s gruff vocals filter in from the back with an almost palpable grittiness. As with the melody, a rise and fall exists in his enigmatic vocals. Punk ferocity grates in the tumultuous sessions before dropping to a mellow tone in the calm chorus. Driving raw emotion in a confident way, Mouse Man showcases versatility, diversity and innovation in this masterful piece. ‘The Birth’ is my introduction to Mouse Man but I am eager to hear more from this up-and-coming artist.
