Mother Vulture – Monster Crunch (2022)

Described by Rock Sound as “the epitome of everything a great rock band should be…”, Mother Vulture is a hard, heavy, ear-splintering foursome with chaos about them. This is my introduction to Mother Vulture, but the lads have already gained critical acclaim from Roadie Music, It’s All Indie, Kaaoszine, as well as numerous playlists. Not only are their studio tunes blazing through your brain but their energetic, engaging and entertaining can bring you to your knees. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Monster Crunch’.

Following their track ‘Homemaker’, Mother Vulture adopts a blaze of sound in ‘Monster Crunch’. A distorted combination of dynamic guitars and pounding drums insert a punk-rock sensation into the track; however, there is a contemporary pop-punk meets alternative rock in the intriguing vocals. It’s like listening to old-school punk-rock with a tinge of 90s alternative rock and a dash of full-bodied, rich and powerful vocals ala Billy Talent.

On the way to their upcoming debut album, the Bristol-based lads take you on a mind-bending journey in ‘Monster Crunch’. From the “over-the-top horror narrative with all the theatrics of a full-length rock opera, the song…doesn’t take itself too seriously.” One element I adore is the intensely intimate experience throughout the melody. Yes, the song (like the band) is not too serious; but there is a vulnerable thread laced within this sonic tapestry belted out in a brash, boisterous way.

So, what do I think of Mother Vulture and their ‘Monster Crunch’? In simple terms, Mother Vulture reaches new heights with their mind-bending, breath-taking, eye-watering single ‘Monster Crunch’.
