Moonlight Jones – I Like The Way (2023)

With the aim of connecting with listeners, Moonlight Jones brings us a sultry, sensual and seductive style called “cosmic soul”. The son of an Egyptian father and an American mother of Czech descent, Jones has been exposed to various sounds from world music to bluegrass, Asian and folk. Drawing together his cultural heritage with experiences living in various countries, the “cosmic soul” is a mishmash of styles in an inimitable way.

While Moonlight Jones has studied music on an international scale, worked with notable artists like graphic designer Kyle Cooper and famed film composer Heitor Pereira, performed at venues like The Mint, The House of Blues and Whiskey-A-Go Go, and toured with his group Echo N Dream, it is only recently that he began releasing music online (according to Spotify, that is). Receiving coverage from Less Than 1,000 Followers, Kaltblut Magazine, Music For All and CelebMix, Moonlight Jones is turning heads across the globe. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘I Like The Way’.

Following his well-received singles ‘Hot Night’ and ‘Whatcha Doin’ To Me’ in 2022, Moonlight Jones retains his seductive style in ‘I Like The Way’. Recorded with Nino Valentino, Doug Emery and David Rousseau, ‘I Like The Way’ is a swirling combination of synths and otherworldly vocals. Tossing you into a sonic whirlpool of kaleidoscopic synth-pop with a nostalgic 80s vibe, the team bring us a bright pop-ness hidden beneath a dark intensity.

While the melody can hold its own, it is the poetic lyricism that brings a cheekier side to the song. Penned about a mysterious woman who catches the eye of our protagonist, ‘I Like The Way’ focuses on a dark and captivating romantic affair. Jones explains that “the song is about a man-eater who gets whatever she wants, however she wants it…” I suppose he likes the way she acts, and she likes the way he succumbs – a mutual liking of the other’s ways if you will.
