Moon and Aries – Don’t Feed The Demons (2023)

In an interview with The Other Side Reviews, Jordana Moon of Moon and Aries explains that “music means vibration and frequency…it’s important to have healthy, uplifting music to assist this generation into a higher consciousness…” – and that is what the pair do with their music. Provoking thoughts, evoking emotions, and leaving audiences drifting through an ethereal genre-diverse soundscape, Jordana Moon’s Joni Mitchell meets Lauryn Hill and Massive Attack weaves along Tom Aries’ electronic beats in spellbinding theme songs for the soul.

One intriguing factor about Moon and Aries is the geographical distance between the two. A trans-Atlantic pairing, Canada-based Moon meets Germany-based Aries transcending time, space and, well, distance. The harmonic virtual collaboration has not only turned our heads but garnered praise on an international scale. From chart-topping singles, such as ‘Rescued’ and ‘Blurred Vision’, to conceptual albums, such as Break The Matrix, Moon and Aries take traditional genres, twist them about, fiddle a little, and release them for us to interpret and enjoy in our own way. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Don’t Feed The Demons’.

Despite breaking boundaries with their “not to be pigeonholed style”, Moon and Aries have a distinctive electronic sound as Moon’s vocals wrap about a shimmering dance melody. Following the completely contrary single ‘Traffic’, the pair shift from a jazz-driven sound infused with horns and laidback grooves to the signature up-tempo electropop in ‘Don’t Feed The Demons’.

A strong steady electronic beat pulsates beneath the synth-tinged twinkles fluttering about the melody. A tinge here and a shimmer there, you feel as if butterflies are flying about your head while you travel along the electronic rollercoaster. Light and airy, there is a whimsical sensation in the ethereal journey; however, Moon’s rich vocals bind the sound while slithering along to navigate a journey of transformation. The band explain:

“’Don’t Feed The Demons’ is a dynamic and seductive electronic pop song with trip-hop elements. A song about facing your inner demons with courage and determination, knowing that your outer world will then reflect your positive metamorphosis.”
