Monroe Moon – Glad To Exist (2022)

Described by The Wild Is Calling as “a queen of an artist with majestic magnetism”, Bunny Monroe is a naturally talented force of nature. Combine her singer-songwriter skills with the guitar of Theo Malkin and you have Monroe Moon. Being married Monroe and Malkin have a special bond that oozes from their sound. Passion, honesty, authenticity and sincerity fall from their fingers into our ears. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Glad To Exist’.

Inspired by the entire discography of Lole y Manuel, ‘Glad To Exist’ is a reflective song about relationships, love, connection and individuality. Bunny Monroe explains that the track was “…going around my head after a meditation turned dream…I was practising visual meditation where I was walking down a busy city street and upon passing an individual, I would look at their face and repeat to myself: ‘I am you. You are me. I love you.’…sometime into this meditation I fell into a dream and fell into a void in the street I was walking…I fell down until I came up on the other side inside a half-submerged lotus.”

The kaleidoscopic consciousness Monroe experienced in her meditation turned dream is evident in Monroe Moon’s music. What I mean is, when you listen to their tunes you can feel a swirl of sound drifting through your body and into the ether before crashing down into a dark sonic abyss. A bit scary, but the feeling of freedom, understanding, and exhilaration is a deep sigh of relief.

One of the tracks being released over the next six months, ‘Glad To Exist’ is a keyboard-driven track interspersed with powerful rock-inspired guitars from Malkin. While the melody is intriguing acting as a soft, hazy foundation in the song, it is the texturing that really grips me. The powerful insertion of hard rock guitars in the soothing flow brings an edginess to the song. Moreover, the layering of Monroe’s elegant vocals atop the melody brings the message of “I exist for you” to the fore. The prominence of her charming vocals points out that she is quite glad to exist.
