Milyssa Rose – Set The World On Fire (2025)
A few months ago, we came across one of the more passionate, fiery, fabulously rambunctious and eclectic musicians to hail the alternative pop sphere: Milyssa Rose. Pushing the boundaries of hip-hop, pop and rock, her sound is original, obscure, and a bit of a headrush (in the nicest way possible). Gritty and rugged, but with soothing charm and warmth, the US-based artist won our hearts with dark-pop single ‘Lost At The Seams’. Join us, as we travel into her single ‘Set The World On Fire’.
Taken off her album The Collection 2, Rose immediately tosses you into a tumultuous whirlpool with ‘Set The World On Fire’. Similar to her critically acclaimed singles ‘Lost At The Seams’ and ‘Olly’, darkness exudes from the rugged execution; however, ‘Set The World On Fire’ leans further into the darkness with raw abandon. While hints of hip-hop surged in previous material, the new track combines dark-pop, hard rock, and an odd avant-garde EDM sheen.
Blending an analogue-esque crush of beats, the single presses on your chest during the verses almost suffocating you… not literally of course. Compressed, isolated and gasping for air, the palpable tension oozing from vivid sounds is overwhelming; yet, just as you’re sent down into the whirlpool, Rose breaks a hard rock light, and you find yourself pulled up gulping fresh air. The bold bass, soaring guitar and crashing drums seem to pick you from the darkness – setting your world on fire, I suppose.
For me, it is Rose’s vocals that ups the ante. Almost lost within the music, her rich voice lingers with seedy eeriness, but also as a friend navigating that sonic underworld. Brash but confident; haunting but empowering; bold but subdued – ‘Set The World On Fire’ is an eclectic spark of emotion leaving you utterly speechless but with a grin on your face.
In addition to the single, Milyssa Rose released an official music video for ‘Set The World On Fire’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel.
