Michellar – LOVE EARTH (2025)

Hailing from the USA – San Francisco to be exact – singer-songwriter Michellar (also known as Michelle Bond) hopes to “connect with her audience by way of abstract imagery, heartfelt lyrics and engaging melodies”; truthfully, she’s doing just that. Sauntering through different slicks of pop, folk, and country, Michellar keeps the upbeat vibe and groove going but with eclectic flair and diversity. For the past three years, the songstress released moving melodies alongside personalised artwork – a match of good music and intriguing visuals; however, this is our first tip-toe through Michellar’s field of sonic tulips.

Taking a glimpse at her previous material, Michellar seemingly favours the delicate tones of old-school folk and country, but she is no one-trick pony. While ‘LOVE EARTH’ returns to the profound and poetic indie-folk realm, she quickly kicked up in electronic pop style with ‘Cross My Heart’ and ‘Dance To Kill’, perfect for the dancefloor. I digress; we aren’t here to gander at her pop offerings – although they are worth a listen – it’s the single ‘LOVE EARTH’ that catches our eye in this review.

Recorded in San Francisco with mixing and mastering completed in the UK, ‘LOVE EARTH’ is a collaborative project between Tobias Wilson and Michellar spanning two continents. Soft, soothing and tranquil, the single nods at vintage 60s/70s folk. Simplistic and barebones, a gentle weaving of piano, guitar, and drums navigates a hazy musical fog. Interestingly, while the minimalist approach is charming and sophisticated, an underlying vulnerability lingers with complex intent.

Melodically, the concoction of harmonic instrumentation warms your heart and holds you close. Michellar’s obscure vocals hug you in a tender embrace, but that vulnerability slices through adding weightiness to ‘LOVE EARTH’. I find it intriguing that the track has a retro folk style as the theme is timeless and demands attention by all generations. Michellar explains:

“’LOVE EARTH’ not only showcases… poignant lyrics and melodious compositions but also delivers a powerful message of unity and awareness. In a world facing environmental challenges… music serves as a call to action, reminding us of our collective responsibility to protect the Earth.”

In addition to the single, Michellar released an official music video for ‘LOVE EARTH’. You can view the video below or on Michellar’s YouTube channel.
