Michele Stodart – Tell Me (2023)

Most well known as the vocalist, bassist and co-songwriter of the award-winning band The Magic Numbers, with whom she continues to play, Michele Stodart blends the intimacy of folk with the rugged sincerity of blues with a tinge of rock in her melodies. After taking a break from releasing solo music, although she continued performing with The Magic Numbers, the UK-based singer-songwriter returned to critical acclaim as a solo artist in 2022.  After two well-received collaborative singles in 2022, ‘A Full House’ with Louis Brennan and ‘The Hug’ with Maisie Skipper, Stodart enters 2023 with ‘Tell Me’.

Following the blues-inspired duet ‘A Full House’, Stodart weaves folk and pop into an emotive piano ballad. Featuring Stodart’s brother and bandmate Romeo Stodart on the piano, ‘Tell Me’ adopts a simplistic soundscape with Michele’s vocals caressing Romeo’s piano in an acoustic sonic wrapper. Smooth and elegant with a sophisticated lick of skin-tingling sound, the arrangement is haunting but also comforting.

Taken off her upcoming album Invitation, a relatable and intimate release taking us on a journey of transformation, self-discovery and looking at significant issues like mental health, ‘Tell Me’ looks at the world of relationships. Elegantly exploring the realm of relationships, intricate emotions and journeys from beginning to end, ‘Tell Me’ captures a sense of rawness in a heart-wrenching way. Michele Stodart explains:

“I wanted to write a song set in the heat of a moment. A brave, one-sided conversation between the truth and lies in a relationship. This is a song about a love affair in denial, hiding behind a sense of control and composure.”

Sincere, sentimental and filled with frustration, vulnerability and fragility, Michele Stodart shares her complex single ‘Tell Me’.
