Michael Peloso – That Will Be Me (2023)

In an interview with The Other Side Reviews (that’s us, by the way), singer-songwriter Michael Peloso shared that his musical journey began when he listened to REO Speedwagon as a child – “It was 1980 and I was eight years old. The first time I heard ‘Keep On Loving You’ by REO Speedwagon on the radio. I just loved the power chords, vocals and harmonies on that track…Hi-Infidelity was the first album I ever purchased with my own money. I played it until it turned to dust…”

Since then, his musical palette has expanded incorporating various genres from rock to pop, folk and even funk in some tunes. With critical acclaim from publications like Sinusoidal Music, Mesmerized, PopHits News, Principle Music and various playlists, US-based Peloso is garnering a strong following far beyond his North American borders. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘That Will Be Me’.

Following his track ‘Rewind’, Michael collaborates once again with Marisa Frantz and Matthew Spell on ‘That Will Be Me’. As light as a feather with the depth of a ravine, Peloso teeters on the line between jovial calm and intense intimacy in ‘That Will Be Me’. Frantz’s fairy-like vocals combine with heartfelt instrumentation, particularly the piano, giving you a tender soothing with a melancholic, otherworldly sliver. I think the acoustic execution enhances the evocative nature of ‘That Will Be Me’ building up a soul-stirring tone in the track.

It’s both easy and difficult to describe ‘That Will Be Me’. On one hand, you feel yourself twirling about in a grassy field with a grin on your face; however, there is a haunting vulnerability that makes your heart ache. This oscillation between light and dark is prompted by the theme of the song. Peloso explains that “five years ago I almost died from a tumour that ruptured in my colon. I had Stage IV colon cancer. While recovering in the hospital I wrote the lyrics for my two daughters…I wanted them to know that I would somehow be there for them. I wanted them to know that they would never be alone…”

Heartfelt, tender, sincere and sentimental, Michael Peloso delicately exposes human fragility, vulnerability and love in his single ‘That Will Be Me’.
