Micah – Lifetime (2024)

Considering the popularity of singer-songwriter Micah, it is strange to say she is one of the newer artists in the pop music scene. In August 2023, her sold-out show at Whelan’s marked her as “one to watch” and the critically acclaimed releases are solidifying her spot as one of the best artists to burst through our speakers (and a ton of other people’s speakers as well) in 2024. Compared to the likes of Tate McRae and Olivio Rodrigo, Micah’s sound is reminiscent of more well-known artists; however, with each track, she appears to build a unique, eclectic and innovative sound that is purely Micah. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Lifetime’.

Following the well-received song ‘DOWNGRADE’, Irish songstress Micah delves once again into the intricacy of relationships with ‘Lifetime’. ‘DOWNGRADE’ discusses the grittier world of toxic relationships where the “relationship crumbles due to deceit and misplaced trust…”; however, ‘Lifetime’ takes a step back to the pre-serious relationship phase. The time of butterflies in your stomach, lust in your eyes, and the promise of a passionate romance. A jump into the kaleidoscopic swirl and rush of raw emotion, the single’s intensity captures your heart, soul, and breath.

Driven by powerful synths, ‘Lifetime’ slithers through contemporary pop but there is a darker side to the sensuality of its intoxicating romance. The twinkling synths shimmer like the confusion of desire so you are truly lost in love… then again, the pulsating beat beneath is alluring while acting as the anchor in the sonic swirl.

Melodically, ‘Lifetime’ is the perfect tribute to being lost in fleeting romance; however, profoundness exists in the lyricism. Micah asks us to not fall in love with her, but the vibrant tune mixed with her seductive vocals makes that rather difficult. Falling in love has never been easier or more beautiful. I cannot wait to hear what else she has on her upcoming debut EP, Villain.

In addition to the single, Micah released an official music video for ‘Lifetime’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
