Micah – DOWNGRADE (2024)

Known for her enthusiastic performances and astounding vocal range, Irish singer-songwriter Micah stomps into 2024 demanding attention – and given the reception, people are quite excited about this. From the USA to the UK, Germany, France and her native Ireland, Micah is garnering an international following with her emotionally charged melodies. Without many releases to her repertoire, at least according to Spotify, she is a newbie who might be lost amidst the rabble; however, her silvery tongue and enticing sound make her a shining gem in a pool of pebbles. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘DOWNGRADE’.

Following her well-received single ‘No Love’, ‘DOWNGRADE’ retains a distinctive pop sound but a slight obscurity in the track makes one say, “Hang on, there’s something else”. It might be the slivers of indie-pop and soul slicing through, then again it might be the fusion of vintage and contemporary sounds. It might be the old-school power of her rich vocals or the hidden depth lingering beneath the light-hearted melody. Whatever it is, ‘DOWNGRADE’ ups the ante with a slightly off-kilter, inimitable and indescribable attitude.

Inspired by the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Dua Lipa, ‘DOWNGRADE’ is made for the new century, yet the theme is an age-old issue relatable to audiences of all ages. Micah explains:

“’DOWNGRADE’ is a powerful anthem about reclaiming self-worth after the end of a toxic relationship. The song tells the story of a relationship that crumbles due to deceit and misplaced trust. The ex-partner’s decision to believe the lies of a so-called friend, who had a romantic interest, leads to heartbreak and a profound realisation for the narrator.”

A blend of bold synths and beats wrapped in a kaleidoscopic swirl of raw emotion, ‘DOWNGRADE’ explores the complexity of lost love. An intricate interplay between vulnerability and confidence, ultimately resulting in an empowering rush of self-worth, ‘DOWNGRADE’ is the tribute song to people who make it through the rain.
