Metrophobia – Crazy (2023)
In an interview with The Other Side Reviews, Metrophobia’s José Garrido (guitar, bass and drums programming) noted: “I love when there is a wall of noise coming from the guitars and melodies coming from every instrument…” – and this desire for a rush of music is all too evident in Metrophobia. Combining the natural talents of Garrido and Markus Gmür (vocals and acoustic guitar), the lads oscillate between dark and light with their atmospheric rock roots entwined with lighter pop sentiments. From international blogs Music For All, Rising Artists Blog, Edgar Allan Poets, Illustrate Magazine, Headbanger News, and many more, Metrophobia has been described as having “…a great deal of character” (Send Me Your Ears) and “…facing work that is pure poetry” (Roadie Metal). Needless to say, the lads are building a loyal fanbase across the globe.
Following their tracks ‘You Won’t Be Back’, ‘Rocket Boy’ and ‘Words Unsaid’, ‘Crazy’ is Metrophobia’s first release in 2023. Retaining their signature blend of hard rock and dark pop, the Swiss pair sliver a moment of clarity through a mystical hazy ambience. Listening to ‘Crazy’, as with the majority of Metrophobia’s melodies, is being lost in a sonic forest searching for an out but simultaneously feeling completely calm.
One aspect I find interesting is how the combination of drums, guitars and Gmür’s rich vocals carries you from comfortable to haunting discomfort. Oozing elegance in the arrangement, you can hear the polished sophistication in Metrophobia’s music; however, a raw vulnerability seeps throughout ‘Crazy’ enhancing the fragile intimacy deep within.

In addition to the single, Metrophobia released an official music video for ‘Crazy’. You can view the video via their YouTube channel. Please note this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
