Megan Wheeler – Now That I’m Gone (2025)

Embracing her love for music at a young age, Megan Wheeler began her musical journey by learning piano at age 5. A few years later- well, several years later- she released her first single at age 16. At such a young age, one would expect naivety in songwriting and composition, but Wheeler turned her nose up and stood tall as one of the best up-and-coming teen sensations. At age 20, after time at Belmont University, the US-based Wheeler explores diverse songwriting directions, breathes a growing independence, and builds a strong sense of identity. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Now That I’m Gone’.

The first track since her 2020 debut single ‘Replaced’, Megan Wheeler re-emerges with a strong pop song. A leaning toward Taylor Swift is evident with the banging pop tone; however, a diverging sense of electropop exists with pulsating beats adding an almost heartbeat effect in the smooth, synth-driven melody.

For me, Wheeler’s vocals retain the commercial pop appeal so clear with Swift and Ed Sheeran, yet there is a pop-rock attitude alluding to Avril Lavigne’s cheekiness. I am by no means saying Wheeler is a copy of these artists, it’s just a bit of clarification for a musician who might expand with more eclectic future tunes.

Melodically, ‘Now That I’m Gone’ is pure, passionate, fun-filled pop – an evolution from the emotional ballad, ‘Replaced’. Interestingly, as much as the song is a whirl of grins and laughter, there is a deeper message to be found in the lyricism. Wheeler explains:

“The message of this song is about knowing your worth and knowing when to walk away, not settling for less, which is something I’ve struggled with and think a lot of people can relate to.”

In addition to the single, Megan Wheeler released a music video for ‘Now That I’m Gone’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel.
