Megan Wheeler – Acceptance Of You (2025)
At only 16 years of age, singer-songwriter Megan Wheeler was already drawing comparisons to artists like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Avril Lavigne, and Dolores O’Riordan with her emotionally charged melodies and moving lyricism. Her debut single, ‘Replaced’, released in 2020, turned heads across the globe and gained her recognition as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Contest. Skip ahead a few years, and Wheeler continued to astound with ‘Now That I’m Gone’ – an anthem for her generation; so, in other words, she’s not too bad. Today, we’re taking a gander at her new single, ‘Acceptance Of You’. Come with us, won’t you?
Following the critically acclaimed ‘Now That I’m Gone’, Wheeler retains a strong contemporary pop vibe in ‘Acceptance Of You’ with the toe-tapping, head-bopping “bubble-gum pop” sound. Soft and soothing, a flood of piano, guitar and synths twirl in harmonic rhythm with a pop-inspired beat pulsating in the background. Yet, as much as the smooth track is a ride along a glistening sonic lake with laidback landguidness and tranquility, there is something vulnerable and raw lingering in the music.
Steadily building a new identity with her music, Wheeler takes another step toward full individuality as composer, songwriter and producer in ‘Acceptance Of You’. Sophisticated and elegant, the single offers maturity in its production; however, naive innocence and childish youthfulness continue to bubble beneath the surface.
A moving melody, ‘Acceptance Of You’ is the deep sigh of relief at the end of a long day, but there is more than a fun whisper and smile-inducing chant. Emotionally charged, Wheeler taps into the complexities of relationships, delicately unravelling experiences. She explains:
“This song came from a relationship experience that made me feel deeply sad but eventually made me feel content and taught me things about myself. I try to put my heart out and be vulnerable when I write music, which I hope draws in people who feel the same.”
