Matya – Get Your Attention (2024)
Defying any traditional categories, singer-songwriter Matya exists in a world of her own with a unique style. Peering out from her sonic universe, she exists in a bubble flooded with rock, pop, punk and post-punk; however, she doesn’t want to keep the secret to herself. Dragging you through the veil of smoke, Matya whips you about in a bold rush of kaleidoscopic wind chilling and calming your soul. Despite releasing her debut and sophomore singles in 2024, her eclectic style is turning heads far beyond her US borders. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Get Your Attention’.
Following her debut track ‘Nobody’s Home’, Matya shifts from a pop rock ballad to an avant-garde soundscape laced with pop-punk punchiness in ‘Get Your Attention’. One of the songs leading to Matya’s upcoming EP, set for release in summer 2024, ‘Get Your Attention’ rushes toward you at a breakneck speed boasting pounding drums and scorching guitars. Unlike ‘Nobody’s Home’, this sophomore single ups the ante with a high energy, electric sound.
While the music wriggles into your ear to rattle about your brain, an oscillation between light and dark exists in ‘Get Your Attention’. Tackling the theme of life in a fast-forward world, ‘Get Your Attention’ explores isolation, vulnerability, confusion and chaos Interestingly, the melody expresses the hurricane of life but also indicates a sense of calm. An intricate composition, Matya sends a cathartic “shout out to everyone feeling disconnected in today’s world” lifting them out of insanity while acknowledging the kaleidoscopic thrust of reality itself.
So, what is my overall opinion of ‘Get Your Attention’? Well, it definitely gets your attention with the forceful execution. Yet, while it is bold and brash, a sentimental sincerity and understanding flutter beneath. For me, Matya proves herself a force of nature to be enjoyed by all.
In addition to the single, Matya released an official music video for ‘Get Your Attention’. You can view the video below or via Matya’s YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
