Matthew Phillips – Time Fades Love (2024)

Establishing himself as a trailblazer in the alternative genre, singer-songwriter Matthew Phillips pushes the boundaries of pop music with experimental eclecticism. Drawing together electronic elements, hook-driven lyrics and cinematic soundscapes, the pioneering talent captivates audiences with intoxicating music. Along with critical acclaim from international publications, Phillips boasts a confident stage presence, sold-out performances, and winning the “Best Pop Artist” at the San Diego Music Awards 2024. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Time Fades Love’.

2023 was a successful year for US-based Phillips, but 2024 is set to be even better. With notable accolades and well-received releases, Phillips hits the ground running in his track ‘Time Fades Love’. Following ‘Till Its Over’ and ‘So In Love’, the new single shifts from an alternative pop tone to something heavier, harder and rock-tinged. Recorded and produced with Joe Piper, it is a concoction of delicate piano, dynamic guitars and pounding drums woven into a golden sonic bubble. Teetering on the boundaries of pop-rock and alternative rock, Phillips showcases his diversity, innovation and versatility to dip into various genres and push raw emotion in all the styles.

Listening to ‘Time Fades Love’ is a rollercoaster experience but the oscillation between forceful movements and simplistic ballad is not entirely chaotic. Soul-stirring and evocative, Phillips tugs at your heartstrings in the melody; however, his rich vocals offer clarity as he embraces you in the moving song. I find this intriguing as it perfectly aligns with the theme of hopefulness in human connection while retaining raw vulnerability in its wake. Phillips explains:

“’Time Fades Love’ is about never giving up on someone you care about. Never giving up on someone you love … It’s a song of hope and asking whoever this may be in your life to not lose faith in you. We need each other more than any of us would like to admit. The song is about working through conflicts, seeing them through, and coming out stronger together.”
