Matt Warren – It All Made Sense (2023)

Rising from the ashes of the Covid lockdown, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Warren began sharing his music with the masses. The UK-based artist released his debut single ‘The Weatherman’ in 2020 and was soon performing live as a solo musician. Since ‘The Weatherman’, his melodies have turned heads receiving rave reviews from international blogs, addition to numerous playlists, and airtime on radio stations. From Ireland to Mexico and France to the USA, Warren is reaching far beyond his UK borders.

Following his upbeat single ‘Flight At The End’, Warren takes a step down with his new single ‘It All Made Sense’. The song might be considered guitar-driven but its kaleidoscopic inclusion of percussion, keyboard, piano and drums weave a colourful sonic tapestry. Just as it is kaleidoscopic, ‘It All Made Sense’ has a strong simplicity to the soundscape. Each instrument comes together in a harmonic whole; however, each instrument also has a specific prominence and individuality strung through the sophisticated arrangement.

Adopting a true DIY approach to production, ‘It All Made Sense’ was penned, performed and produced by Warren at his home studio. During a three-week period, he completed his upcoming album Excited To Die, along with ‘It All Made Sense’ being the second track from this anticipated release. Warren explains that the upcoming album has a darker theme with ‘It All Made Sense’ fitting into the larger concept in an intricate, complex but also singularly simple way. He explains:

“The single was meant to be very minimal…I wanted this particular track to be very organic and simple. The music for the album as a whole was inspired by Kurt Vile’s latest release and the way he takes simple motifs and sometimes builds them into huge soundscapes, and at other times leaves them as they are and makes the song almost meditational. The song has a very specific meaning and is part of a larger concept from the album…”
