Matt DeAngelis – Rock And A Hard Place (2025)
With a reputation for emotional melodies brimming with profound poetic lyricism, singer-songwriter Matt DeAngelis is inspired by reality in all its good and bad; however, despite the tragedy, his aim is to encourage its beauty. DeAngelis first reached our ears a couple of years ago with the classic rock single ‘World I’m Comin’ For You’. Today, we take a gander at his most recent release, ‘Rock And A Hard Place’.
Following his well-received 2024 single ‘Rejection’, DeAngelis saunters into 2025 with ‘Rock And A Hard Place’. Recorded and produced at Gradwell House Recording Studios and Musically Speaking Studios, ‘Rock And A Hard Place’ finds the line between indie-rock and indie-folk with its soul-stirring sound. Joined by Billy Kennedy (guitars), Eric Bishop (bass) and Cole Herudek (drums and percussion), the new track weaves together soaring guitars, a bold bass, pulsating drums, shimmering keys, a heartfelt piano and peeks of strings.
Sprinkling their magical production fairy dust on ‘Rock And A Hard Place’, Tom Conran, Billy Kennedy create a sophisticated tune; however, while sophisticated elegance wraps you in a wistful haze of music, raw vulnerability oozes from each chord daubing intimate fragility on the track. So, in other words, you’re all about the innocent, hopeful journey, while a spark of confusion and uncertainty lingers in the background.
Sincere and sentimental but laden with weighty depth, ‘Rock And A Hard Place’ explores the complexity of reality with the delicate charm of indie-rock. DeAngelis explains:
“’Rock And A Hard Place’ is a song written to reflect my uncertainty of many struggles in life and which direction I choose to go… One decision you make that you believe will ensure security in the future may not be guaranteed at all… We all experience difficult decisions in this lifetime and no one is immune to heartache or suffering… This song is meant to not only express frustration with tough decisions we all encounter on a daily basis, but it is also a message of encouragement.”
In addition to the single, Matt DeAngelis released an official music video for ‘Rock And A Hard Place’. You can view the video below and on his YouTube channel.
