Mary Knoblock – Heaven’s Bride (Live) (2023)

Intending to inspire, empower and heal through creativity, Mary Knoblock brings her eclectic light to the masses. Known for her off-centre combination of jazz, classical and EDM music, the US-based musician is completely inimitable. In fact, her sound is entirely Mary Knoblock and nothing else. This is my introduction to Knoblock, but she has turned heads for years. Not only is she an insatiable songstress but also the CEO of Produced By A Girl – a platform serving as a gateway for female professionals in the music industry. We’re taking a gander at her music though, so join us as we jump into her discography.

Following her critically acclaimed full-length albums Mustang Runners and Sirius & Vega, Knoblock releases her single ‘Heaven’s Bride (Live)’. Wistful, whimsical and filled with an air of magic, Knoblock sends you off on a journey through a heady forest veiled by intoxicating perfume. While you feel slightly lost and confused surrounded by the siren song in a foggy world, Knoblock’s vocals act like a hand reaching out to guide you along.

Falling somewhere along the lines of dream pop with a cinematic quality, there is a synthy drama about ‘Heaven’s Bride (Live)’. While the synths swarm your senses, a strong piano pierces the veil bringing clarity, precision and hopefulness. A melancholic song, no doubt, in both the melody and poetic lyrics; yet there is a simplistic joy slithering through ‘Heaven’s Bride (Live)’.

Penned as a “fictional representation of a love story that touches on themes of heartache [and] love’s journey…”, ‘Heaven’s Bridge (Live)’ oscillates between the poignant fragility and insatiable joy of the human experience. Complex and intricate, Knoblock brings a delicate intimacy through the intense single. She explains:

“It [‘Heaven’s Bride (Live)’] has an undertone of the fragility of love and also deep sadness in loss or chasms of love a listener might experience while noting a deeper theme of war and how it can interrupt without warning… The paradox of love and war collide to help the listener process life, love and tragedy that can often happen all at once in the world while we navigate complex emotions of the heart.”
