Mark Duggan – Lullaby (I’ll Be There) (2021)

If Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan were to have a lovechild the chances are Mark Duggan would be it. Hailing from Waterford, Ireland, Duggan has a knack for sharing soulful stories in uplifting and inspired ways. Since his introduction into the music industry in 2018, the talented singer-songwriter has received critical acclaim from Rattler Mag, YMX, Hot Press and Indie Buddie. He has also featured on several online radio stations sharing his music with the masses. The latest addition to his growing discography is the single ‘Lullaby (I’ll Be There)’.

Following the single ‘Promenade Firework Show’, Duggan adopts a slower, steadier and more intimate sound in ‘Lullaby (I’ll Be There)’. A well-layered track, there are various textures including a smoothness between rich guitars and soothing synths. With a hazy ambience, the track seems to place you in a swirl of sound forming a whimsical soundscape. Unlike the more energetic material, this single tends to follow a more flowing format cradling one in a warm blanket of music.

It is true that the melody effortlessly blends with Duggan’s vocals; however, it is the dulcet tones which truly emphasise the intensity of the track. Using a personal narrative, Duggan not only engages with the audience in ‘Lullaby (I’ll Be There)’ but adds a Bob Dylan-esque intimacy to the single. A sonic representation of ethereal wistfulness meeting poignant sincerity, Duggan’s new single is obscurely veiled while boasting a lingering sense of optimism and hopefulness.
