Mark Daly – Better Off Alone (2024)
If you enjoy the sounds of bands like Kings of Leon, The Smashing Pumpkins and Queens of the Stone Age, by all means, you’ll probably love Mark Daly. Then again, his rambunctious ferocity and charming cheekiness add a distinctive flair as he holds you in a warm (although quite energetic) embrace. This is our introduction to Mark Daly, but he has entertained international audiences for almost one decade. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Better Off Alone’.
Inspired by the complexities of life in its totality – in fact, his chart-topping Autism Awareness charity single ‘Your World’ was inspired by his son – the Irish artist digs into the grittier areas of existence with a burning passion. Taken off his upcoming album Devil’s Arms, recorded with award-winning producer Brian Virtue, the new track ‘Better Off Alone’ tackles the depths of self-worth, inner turmoil and self-discovery. Daly explains:
“The song touches on insecurities, imposter syndrome, and feeling like you’re messed up but knowing you can find your way out of the dark. So many of us have been there. I want people to they’re not alone in these feelings and that they can find their way forward…”
Just as the lyricism sparks a sense of profoundness, the melody of ‘Better Off Alone’ is as intricate and emotional. Following his critically acclaimed single ‘Pieces’, ‘Better Off Alone’ is a hurricane of kaleidoscopic sound grabbing your heart, stealing your soul and ensnaring your senses from the outset.
With crashing drums, a scorching guitar and bold bass, the song comes at you from all sides; however, a dip to heavier, slower, grunge-esque gives us insight into the fearfulness in an angst reality. The interesting element is while the crescendo to rock insanity is similar to before the lull, there appears to be a more joyful, hopeful and empowering attitude within the same rock sound – it’s odd but incredibly intriguing.
In addition to the single, Mark Daly released an official music video for ‘Better Off Alone’. You can view it below or via his YouTube channel.
