Mardi Tickle – Circus Called Life (2024)

Take a look at life as it is. Our reality is ridiculous. From the uncertain sociopolitical scene to the questionable ready-made meal I have in my microwave; everything is a light shining on a journey through the “life circus”. As much as we try to control things, like a circus master or trained performers, there’s always the chance it’s gonna go pear-shaped. This is the message Mardi Tickle shares in her new single ‘Circus Called Life’.

Don’t know who Mardi Tickle is? Don’t worry, we were the same before the singer-songwriter came across our virtual desk. Hailing from Finland, Mardi Tickle has been entertaining audiences to critical acclaim for a few years now – she released her first EP, Enough, in 2018. As the years continue, her intoxicating charm and awesome voice win hearts on a global scale. Today, we’ll see if she wins our hearts, ensnares our senses, and utterly enchants us to a soul-stirring level with her music.

Following her 2023 singles ‘Mennyt on valmis’ and ‘I Don’t Need A Guitar’, the bi-lingual musician swags into 2024 with ‘Circus Called Life’. While the new single has a strong alternative pop tone, it seems ‘Circus Called Life’ is an evolution in Mardi Tickle’s style breathing more glittering disco into the melody. Interestingly, while the song is toe-tapping with a “twirl about in the kaleidoscopic confetti with a grin on your face”, darkness lurks within the track.

Recorded in Finland with production duo PhikaSound, ‘Circus Of Life’ is a sophisticated melody, but with raw innocence blustering through the tune. Mardi Tickle’s rich vocals are enticing layered across a concoction of synths, piano, guitar and even strings. With a whirl of bright lights and colours, you can easily lose your mind; however, profoundness exists as intricate precision in the arrangement belies the colourful madness.

So, has Mardi Tickle won our hearts? Damn straight she has! I cannot wait for more from this masterful musician.
