Marcus McCoan – Try Me (2022)

A renowned songwriter and producer turned solo artist, Marcus McCoan is an established musician turning heads on a global scale for several years. In fact, he recently returned from a tour with award-winning artist Natalie Imbruglia where he gained a reputation for engaging, energetic performances. Alongside the Imbruglia tour, McCoan has also performed at notable festivals like Glastonbury and Boardmasters, as well supporting the likes of Rudimental, Raw Morris and Gabrielle Aplin.

Returning after a two-year hiatus, UK-based McCoan brings audiences his latest single ‘Try Me’. Originally to be released as a video exclusively, McCoan showcases his capabilities as a live performer in the music video; however, while the video is impressive, it is the studio single we are looking at.

Easily placed alongside commercial pop artists like Charlie Puth or Justin Bieber, there is upbeat, high-paced, bubble-gum pink sound to ‘Try Me’. Yet, while a strong electropop influence is heard throughout the track, a rugged edginess is added with the powerful blues-rock guitar. A slide of rock is woven into ‘Try Me’ bringing depth, heaviness and a brutal rawness to the kaleidoscopic soundscape. A hazy ambience wraps around listeners with the electropop sentiments, but it is the rock tinge that drops the hazy veil traversing a blunt, abrupt rawness.

Following his 2020 release ‘Strangers’, ‘Try Me’ showcases an evolution in McCoan’s sound with a more eclectic production – an evolution in his music, perhaps? All I know is that ‘Try Me’ is a musical masterpiece flooded with intoxicating vibes. Completely insatiable, I am transfixed and cannot wait for more from this talented musician.
