Mantrix Storm – U, de stad (2025)

Bringing a new style and perspective to the music scene, Mantrix Storm fuses elements of indie-pop, house and hip-hop rediscovering the joy of electronic music in less electronic settings. With a sense of obscurity, eclecticism, and unconventional diversity, the Netherlands-based artist is anything but pedestrian. Returning after a period of reinvention and evolution, Mantrix Storm is quickly redefining the realm of modern music in his forward-thinking releases. Come with us as we take a saunter into his latest single, ‘U, de stad’.

Following his acclaimed album Terug weggeweest, ‘U, de stad’ takes listeners into an unexplored or mostly unexplored world of eclectic music. Finding the line between organic instrumentation and AI vocals, he captures nostalgic joy with contemporary progress – a style that might be questionable from conventional approaches, but intriguing in an experimental attitude. Interestingly, the theme and inspiration capture the heart of nostalgia, memories and heartfelt reminiscences. Mantrix Storm explains:

“This track is inspired by my life in Utrecht, things that changed and things that stayed. Friends and places, a nostalgic track that looks back at easier times of being young. The friend group split up but we’re all coming from the same place and everyone who grew up in Utrecht will always have the city in his heart… ‘U, de stad’ is a release everyone can feel inside…”

Looking back at yesteryear, the poignant lyricism and expression of those “good old days” touches a chord in my heart; however, acceptance and understanding of today’s reality curbs those yearning for the past with empowering acknowledgement of present and future.

Lyrically, ‘U, de stad’ is heartwarming and emotional, but what about that past meets present melody? A combination of soaring guitars, punchy drums, and shimmering keyboard, Mantrix Storm captures the organic aspect of composition; however, not being a singer himself, the vocals are AI-generated finding the line between old and new.

I find this concoction, particularly the AI vocals, intriguing – if you didn’t know it was AI, you’d believe it was all organic. This is my introduction to Mantrix Storm, and based on the forward-thinking ‘U, de stad’ I am certain there are more exciting times to come.
