Machine on a Break – good4u (2024)

What began as a three-year-old plink-plonking her way across the family’s heirloom piano resulted in a head-turning, breath-taking, soul-stirring singer-songwriter building a name on the international rock music scene. Reaching far beyond her Australian borders, Machine on a Break is winning the hearts of audiences and garnering a loyal following across the globe. Her fantastic symphonies (or at least they sounded great to her) began as a toddler but it was only as an adult that she made her debut with more tolerable tunes. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘good4u’.

On the heels of her critically acclaimed single ‘Limbo’, Machine on a Break bursts forth with her bold blend of melodic metal and hard rock tinged with a shiver of pop-punk. Recorded and produced with Jacob Wilkes, ‘good4u’ twirls pounding drums with scorching guitars and a hint of keys fluttering in the melody; however, just as madness ensues with the colliding instruments, a soothing unity exists in the chaotic concoction.

Listening to ‘good4u’ is a rollercoaster from brash, head-whipping ferocity tossing you from pillar to post to gazing across a glistening sonic river with a soothing lull; a brash shove to a gentle embrace, ‘good4u’ oscillates between dark terror and warm hope. While the melody has a sense of insanity, the delicate vocals are a silvery thread of understanding. Then again, the optimistic embrace is laced with vulnerability, fragility and heart-breaking turmoil.

“I’m aware that when I’m unwell it affects more than just me, so it’s important to me that I am good for the people around me and that’s a really strong motivator for me to keep on top of my mental health… ‘good4u’ is about owning your flaws and mental health and taking initiative for preventing these from affecting others who are important to you.” – Machine on a Break on ‘good4u’

Sincere, sentimental, insightful and genuine, Machine on a Break is the voice of a misunderstood generation who find themselves flawed, understand the impact of their actions, and are eager to take fate into their own hands.
