Luno Moon – Katie Holmes (2022)

Following the success of his last EP, Luno Moon brings a sparkling bubblegum pop love letter to our ears with ‘Katie Holmes’. Using a touch of retro 60s tones, mixed into a lo-fi vibe, he offers up a catchy love letter to the actress with his usual immersive flair. Bridging the divides between a number of genres and styles, he has you merrily bopping away to the song, while the lyrics sink their way into your brain.

The retro vibes of the single do not stop with the song and have crept over into the accompanying official musical video, through the VHS overlay. Since starting his career as an opening act for Kap G, Moon has been a regular on the live gig scene. With a loyal following that grows with each release, he is building up to his next album which is expected later this year.

‘Katie Holmes’ brings a lo-fi retro vibe to the soundscape from the first note. There is a toe-tapping beat that meets almost surf-style guitar tones that makes you think of youthful days long past. Through the melody, you can hear a touch of funfair style notes that truly transport you into the past. The relatively minimalistic feeling to the melody brings a great easy-listening vibe. It is a wonderful melodic movement that lightens your day and has you effortlessly bopping away to the sound. There is no way you can listen to the music and not feel life being a little brighter for having heard it. The delightful mixture of retro pop and lo-fi sensibilities has a touch of dream pop that takes everything to another level.

As you are bopping away to the vintage vibes of the music, Moon’s vocals pick up the overall flows of the melody and turn them up to 11. Through the lyrics, he offers a love letter to Katie Holmes that sparkles with the light vibes of bubblegum pop. He expounds on all the things that he loves about the actress, but keeps it on the fun side. The gentle bop of the melody is tempered slightly with the smooth slide of his performance that hovers over the guitars, like the haze of heat in the summer months. It is a really chilled performance that puts a small smile on your face.

Packing in all the best elements of lo-fi and bubblegum pop, Luno Moon offers up a chilled, yet catchy, love letter in ‘Katie Holmes’. The melody is awash with lo-fi sensibilities that meet the various pop stylings of the music perfectly. His vocals are as chilled as the vibes of the music while diving into everything he loves about the actress.
