How should I describe Luna Keller? Powerful, commanding, compelling, dramatic – no adjective in any language can aptly describe the raw passion and chilling potency of Luna Keller. With each single, the Germany-based singer-songwriter draws you further into her web of mystical music and you eagerly submit. Taking on the mental health issue, Keller’s music is intricate, complex and insightful offering a glimpse of both sides to the coin. Over the past few months, she has released critically acclaimed singles leading to her highly anticipated concept album Ocean Inside Of Me. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Not Ready’.
Listening to each Keller single one after the other is breathtaking, and if you’re not careful overwhelming in their raw vulnerability. With every track, Ocean Inside Of Me explores each intimate area of living with depression from the desperate ‘If I Was No More’ and ‘Swallow The Sea’ to the complex track ‘Ocean Inside Of Me‘ and the reflective ‘Patterns’. Following the most painful and desperate single ‘If I Was No More’, ‘Not Ready’ embodies the desire to seek help and transform from inner turmoil to optimistic empowerment. Keller explains:
“It’s an intense song for sure; I sang it many times after writing it, looping the bridge ‘til my voice was broken by tears. But I don’t think it’s just a sad song; it’s a reflection of the moment I chose healing over despair.”
An intercontinental piece produced by US-based Dominic Romano, ‘Not Ready’ brings kaleidoscopic intensity to the simplicity of folk music. A guitar-driven single, there is a soothing nature to the folk song; however, Thomas LaVine’s underlying drums bring an edginess to the soft tone – as if a heart pulsating beneath a mystical soul. Keller’s obscure vocals always remind me of a mystical siren running through a dark forest. Always a fantastical whisper of song, but simultaneously a bold and commanding rush of dulcet vocals; Keller showcases the power of a whisper in ‘Not Ready’.
