LULL – Something In The Way (2022)

Emotional, engaging and enticing, UK-based group LULL can easily captivate your senses from the first note you hear. Referring to themselves as an emo-hardcore band, the lads have a hard-hitting sound for the masses. Yet, unlike the typical hardcore bands, LULL inserts something unique into the music with an emo and alternative rock twist…just keeping it heavy but happening. Featured by Spotlight UK, Chalkpit Records, The Line of Best Fit, BBC Radio and various playlists, LULL is making a splash amidst critics and listeners alike. The latest addition to their repertoire is ‘Something In The Way’.

Following their track ‘Feelings Out’, the lads blast into 2022 with their single ‘Something In The Way’. Opening with a feeling of late-90s/early-2000s emo nuances, one would assume that ‘Something In The Way’ nods to the emo revolution; however, LULL’s versatility is shown with a quick divergence to old-school grunge and alternative rock sounds. The idea of Radiohead licks at the back of my brain as the distorted guitars add a haziness to the soundscape. Yet, I am wrong with LULL bringing a contemporary rock edge to the melodic arrangement.

Versatility, eclecticism and obscurity are the key adjectives when describing LULL, and their latest single is nothing but awesome. The rich vocals growl throughout a hard-hitting melody resulting in a bit of a contradictory tone. Ruggedness in distortion and pounding lines, but soothing in the way everything effortlessly connects in calm verses. Lifting you off the ground with its soul-stirring nature, ‘Something In The Way’ is a song you can twirl to while also screaming at the top of your lungs.

Tender, sincere and sentimental with overwhelming brutality, LULL shows true passion with their music. I can’t wait to hear more from this Northern gem.
