Luke Black – Amsterdam (2021)
While on a trip in Europe, Luke Black was hit by the inspiration for his single ‘Amsterdam’. A tale of escapism, the single offers a way out of reality into a world of smoke and mirrors, if only for a moment. On his way to escape, he channels modern mysticism into timeless sounds for a swirling and enchanting single.
His ability to create mesmerising sounds has seen Black labelled ‘The Serbian Pop Alchemist’. With this single, he continues to hypnotise listeners with waltzing waves of pop and deep beats. ‘Amsterdam’ has an almost whimsical opening through the light tones. There is a pastel-coloured hue to the music that pulls you into the escapism of the track. The electronic edge that comes on the chorus turns into a pulse of dance beats that have you moving to it. This is a melody that makes you want to head out to the dancefloor to get lost in the movement the beat encourages. While the music makes you want to move, the arrangement flows from moving to soft wondering escapism which is utterly wonderful.
The whimsical feeling of the verses in the melody is matched by the vocals. Black’s voice has you venturing down the path of escape from reality with him. When the chorus hits, the electronic edge to his performance enhances the dancing vibes of the melody. At times, his performance is pure dance before it slides into a woozy escapism. The flow of the music has been perfectly transformed into the visuals of his video including the wave of change from whimsy to electronic edges. It is a really engaging video that keeps you engaged while the music pulses its way into your soul.

The single has a delightful movement that has you skipping along rainbows and dancing to the beats.
