Luego – Four Minute Mile (2022)
There are times when you know you need to get out of a bad situation as fast as possible without any care about burning bridges. As a soundtrack to these moments, Luego has created ‘FOUR MINUTE MILE’. Tapping into his own moment of getting out fast, he brings a roar of freedom, the shock of empowerment and an overwhelming sense of relief to the single.
Building a soundscape packed with synths, guitars and a folktronica song structure, he has you riding the giddy high of the emotions. Joining him on this track to bring it to life are Mark McKee (synths, guitars) and Kaitlin Wolfberg (vocals, strings). To take the track even further, he has created a stunning music video that will have you dancing as you watch.
‘Four Minute Mile’ gently rises with a light touch that explodes into a cascade of glittering tones. There is a bed of synths that you rest on which is propelled forward by the clap of beats that echo through the soundscape. The melody has a slow building feeling to it as the softness of the opening grows into a sense of freedom and empowerment. As you travel down the single, you are filled with the relief of escaping a bad situation, and the relief that comes with cutting ties to a bad past which allows you to start afresh. You can hear the touches of folk sensibilities in the low levels of the track, but this swirls into a rather modern electronic movement. There is something in the melody that has you swaying to its rhythm, whether you want to or not. Later in the track, the guitar starts to soar into the sky carrying your renewed sense of freedom and self into the sun.
Against the stunning melody, the vocals enter with a heavy electronic touch. The digital edges of the vocals warble out into the synths, creating a feeling of intangibility that slowly starts to solidify as you head into the chorus. Through the lyrics, Luego details the bad situation he found himself in and the poor coping mechanisms used to deal with the toxicity. There is a feeling of compassion for the other person that is woven into the knowledge that you need to leave this situation. It is a really emotional track that tugs at your heartstrings while filling you with the euphoria of leaving something bad behind.
Through the glittering synths, soaring guitars and solid vocals of ‘FOUR MINUTE MILE’, Luego contrasts euphoric freedom with compassion while getting out of a bad situation. The melody is stunning as it moves from glittering synths to a soft bed of music only to soar as the guitars hook into it. The vocals build through the verses, moving to a solid flow as they tug at your emotions.
