Ludlow Creek – Last Call (2023)
With a reputation for energetic, engaging and authentic melodies, US-based Ludlow Creek is not only turning heads with confident performances but also their intriguing music. Despite only forming, or rather streaming, music for one year (give or take), Ludlow Creek has made waves on an international level. With features on Pop Icon Magazine, Melody Maker, Indie Music Reviews, Write Away and various radio stations/playlists, the talented five-some have listeners far beyond their US borders singing their praises. In fact, further accolades include the music video for ‘Stoney Lonesome Road’ winning ‘Best Music Video’ at the 2022 Australia Film Festival, as well as winning ‘Band Album of the Year’ at the 2022 International Singer-Songwriter Association Awards.
With their award-winning, chart-topping discography, it is needless to say 2022 was a good year for Ludlow Creek. Now, they blast into 2023 with their single ‘Last Call’. Taken off their album Which Way Is Forward? and following their well-received track ‘This Baby Boy’, the group draws together elements of classic rock, roots and country in the latest single.
Matching pounding drums with powerful guitars and a rush of gruff vocals, the multi-instrumentalists toss listeners into a kaleidoscopic sonic whirlpool with ‘Last Call’. A feeling of The Eagles oozes through on ‘Last Call’, yet there is a ruggedness sparking from the melody bringing a unique flavour to Ludlow Creek. Interestingly, while each of the instruments has a prominent presence, it has a harmonic flow to the rock-inspired song.
Just as the melody has an intricate but mellow vibe, the lyricism is poetic but complex. Co-written with long-time collaborator Ray Monell, there is a charming ingenuity lurking in the lyrical context. Touching on issues of faith, love and relationships, the single is poignant with a heart-warming vulnerability.
