Lucas Pasley – Someone To Hold Me
Having become quite the fan of the 1960s show Bonanza, anything to do with Westerns is appealing at the moment, including barn dances. If I had “Little Joe” Cartwright on my arm, the fictional dance would be fantastic; if real-life musician Lucas Pasley were on the stage – as he does perform at barn dances and festivals in 21st-century reality – this dance would be outstanding. May I introduce, with much delight, US-based singer-songwriter Lucas Pasley.
Following his well-received single ‘Til The End’, Pasley presents the charm of old-school Americana with a modern-day twist in ‘Someone To Hold Me’. Penned by Lucas Pasley and produced by Mat Leppanen, ‘Someone To Hold Me’ leans toward the songwriting and stylings of Bob Dylan but retains originality within its vintage tone that is distinctively Pasley. Soft, soothing and tender, his acoustic guitar showcases the beauty of simplicity; however, something lingers in its barebones style that tugs at your heartstrings with kaleidoscopic charm.
Amidst the gentle melody, Lucas Pasley’s grittier vocals travel along at a steady trot. No, not a steady trot, probably more of a saunter of sound breathing above the melody whilst simultaneously weaving through the track. Rich and bold, his dulcet voice oozes warmth and flair, but its starkness exists with old-school country obscurity.
Known for delving into complex themes with soothing music, ‘Someone To Hold Me’ is an intimate narrative bound in comfortable solace. Describing his music as tunes to “…take your mind and heart on a journey into itself”, the song is a musical journey of its own.
A song about Barbie – not the doll, an actual person named Barbie – the track tells the tale of a woman who cared for Pasley’s grandmother in her final years. Yet, it’s not just a superficial gander at the surface as he delves further into the emotional aspect of Barbie. A “troubled soul with a heart full of love and longing. Though her own worst enemy at times, her songs and poetry and carved canes speak to her depth…”
Sincere, sentimental and heart-breaking with still heart-warming, ‘Someone To Hold Me’ is reminiscent of older country songs but retains authenticity making it entirely new to our ears.
