Love Ghost – GOD DAMN (2024)
Over the past year, Love Ghost’s frontman Finnegan Bell has kept busy writing, recording and producing a collaborative project with artists from Mexico. Beginning with the single ‘Veneno’ featuring Blnko, continuing with singles ‘Snap’ featuring CHZTER and the sensational ‘Dope Man’ featuring Ghanaian musicians Camidoh and DJ Switch Ghana, Love Ghost steps away from the signature pop-punk sound embracing a genre-diverse style with Afrobeat, rap-rock, nu-metal and trap. Of course, these tracks are merely a few of the numerous diverse singles to emerge from Mexico with a Love Ghost flair. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘GOD DAMN’.
Following the well-received singles ‘TIME TRAVEL’ and ‘Tiana’, Bell delves into the intricacies of human emotion with the complex tune ‘GOD DAMN’. Featuring Mexican artist ND KOBI and produced by Shantra, ‘GOD DAMN’ is a mixture of Latin RnB and alternative rock. While the smoothness of RnB might collide with the heaviness of alternative rock, ‘GOD DAMN’ is an elegant fusion of the genres delicately capturing the power of rock with the sensuality of RnB.
In true Love Ghost style, the lyricism attaches an emo element as ‘GOD DAMN’ explores tumultuous inner turmoil, anxiety, depression and self-conflict with vulnerable melancholy and despair. Yet, as we sit at the edge of a canyon of darkness feeling paralysed in our minds, the mellifluous flow of ‘GOD DAMN’ offers comforting warmth. It is not the steady beats crossing the path to hope or the gentleness of a gut-wrenching melody that lifts your spirit; no, it is the richness of Bell’s vocals and the heart of ND KOBI’s soulful rap. Fluttering across a gritty flood of frustration, angst and painful fear, Love Ghost lifts you up navigating the mire of doom.
