Love Ghost – GLOCK (2023)

In their own words, Love Ghost believes that “love clings to you forever whether you’re in it or out of it. Like an apparition you can’t shake, it never leaves” – this is the most eloquent description of the US-based band. Traipsing different flavours of rock, Love Ghost’s music has a hypnotic insatiability infiltrating your mind and body without any chance of escape. Over the past six months, Love Ghost has captured us in its intoxicating grasp several times with six reviews to read. From Tales of a Sad Boy to ‘Jealousy’, ‘Payback’ and ‘Haunted House’, the pop-punk/emo rock group bring a unique flair to each release.

Astounding to say the least, the lads bring a fierce fabulousness on their own; however, with vocalist Finnegan Bell now based in Mexico to connect with Latin artists, Love Ghost shows their innovative nature through collaborations. In ‘Veneno’, musician Blnko brought a Latin rock vibe to American pop-punk, and in ‘Haunted House’ Love Ghost approached rap-rock with Mexican vocalist FLVCKKA and producer BrunOG. Now, Bell joins rapper Dan Garcia on ‘GLOCK’.

Produced by Eipi (a regular collaborator with Dan Garcia), ‘GLOCK’ has an almost sinister sound oozing from the bold beats puncturing a darker synth-inspired rock tone. Slithering down your spine and grasping your heart in that terrified gut-wrenching way, Eipi lays a base for rough, rugged vocals and lyricism. Dan Garcia brings a rap contribution almost immediately steadily tapping along the melody with his vocals; however, it is Bell’s whisper that adds a menacing ominousness to the track.

Like hearing a bump in the night, Bell breathes in with his hushed vocals before swooping you up in a scream of chaos. The crescendo to a metal-influenced brashness tears open that mild sinister sound unleashing all the demons within. Matched by Garcia slithering beneath with his bold rap, there is a fierce combination of swirling insanity and smooth embrace.

Being that ‘GLOCK’ is inspired by the pair’s love for competitive fighting and an “unleashing of the beast within”, it makes sense for the music to build up in your chest before rushing forth in an intense rage. Love Ghost’s music is never just heard but felt with every inch of your being.
