Love Ghost – Цепи (2022)
Love Ghost has kept us listening to their music through their unleashing of the inner beast in ‘Wolfsbane’ to the evocative topics covered in SaberToothed. They are now looking at breaking free from the chains of trauma at any cost through the bilingual lyrics and hard rock/industrial rap anthem ‘Цепи’. Collaborating with Vollny, they burst through the soundscape with hardcore tones and belting vocals in both English and Russian.
Drawing on the insane period of time we are all living through, they unleash their emotions and thoughts through a blend of melodic elements. Continuing the hyper-expressive sound of Love Ghost, they throw in the flair of Vollny for a single you are not going to forget any time soon. ‘Цепи’ draws you in with a mixture of metal and industrial tones. The guitars and drums pulse through your chest and have your head banging to the movement. There is a wonderful heavy rock punch to the sound that punches through the soundscape and pushes you around the melody. The pulses are constant through the single even as the pace of the music picks up halfway through. This is when an aggressive push comes into the mix that punches out at the chains that tie us down. The melody definitely makes you want to turn the volume up and utterly rock out to the single.
Vollny’s vocals open the single at the same time as that mixture of metal and industrial tones. This swings into Finnegan Bell’s lead vocals that walk the line between melodic metal and screamo. The chorus has a building feeling that leads you to the shouts that you want to join in with. When the music turns halfway through the single, Vollny’s rap vocals come back in. His performance brings the Russian lyrics and a darker edge to the track. The darkness of his performance meets the heavier guitars perfectly shaking you up before tossing you into the rock chorus.
Love Ghost team up with Vollny for the pulsing aggression of ‘Цепи’ that breaks the chains that tie us down to trauma. The melody punches its way through you and fills you with the urge to turn the volume up. Bell’s vocals walk the border between heavy rock and screamo while Volny’s Russian rap is a dark shaking layer that makes the rock chorus even better.
