Louisa Maria – Not Haunted By You (2021)

Working as a music reviewer I am fortunate enough to come across hundreds of new artists across the globe. Yep, I love my job! The thing is, while I have numerous names finding their way to my virtual desk, I still have favourites who stick in my head long after I finish the review. I don’t know if I should admit this or not, but Louisa Maria is one of my favourites.

Known as being part of the power-rock trio, Tequila Mockingbyrd, the UK-based Louisa Maria is an established name with a loyal global fanbase; however, it is her original work that sees her reconnect with her roots in Bristol. Featured on Planet Rock, RGM, Sinusoidal Music, BBC Radio 1 and various other press, Louisa Maria is certainly attention-grabbing. The latest addition to her well-received discography is ‘Not Haunted By You’.

Approximately one year after releasing her EP Tea For Two, Louisa astounds once again with ‘Not Haunted By You’. While her tracks ‘Bang Bang Drop’ and ‘One Lump of Sugar’ have a strong contemporary pop sound, Louisa showcases her innovativeness inserting hard-hitting rock-influenced tinges in ‘Not Haunted By You’. The bold arrangement of guitars, drums and synths fuse into a rich and powerful melody. Moreover, the staccato beat and upbeat pace seem to represent Louisa’s recognisable “in your face” attitude that we have grown to love.

As with her previous work, ‘Not Haunted By You’ is filled with messages of empowerment executed in an edgy way. Touching on relationships, or rather the end of relationships, the single dynamically represents strength, independence and definitely being over someone. Lousia Maria shares that she wants “…people to express themselves with this track – it has a very sensual nature of lyrics and hooks. Don’t be afraid to let go and express your feelings. If you are newly single this track helps you say it all.”

In addition to the single, Louisa released an official music video for ‘Not Haunted By You’. Adding an intoxicating visual element to the tune, Louisa shows her sassiness and beauty in a sophisticated but crazy way. Unfortunately, I could not view the video in its entirety as it includes lighting effects and rapid image transitions that can cause seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
