Los Sindes – Vecinos Fachos (2022)

Already having tickled our eardrums with their single ‘Playa C’, the US-based Los Sindes is no stranger to The Other Side Reviews. A fusion of post-punk, hard rock and old-school Latin rock, the threesome brings a bold new flavour to the contemporary rock scene – something that is sorely needed in a sometimes-stagnating industry. While Los Sindes began releasing music this year, the lads are old friends and knew each other in high school before reconnecting later on. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Vecinos Fachos’.

Hot on the heels of their song ‘Sonicos’, Zito (lead vocals and guitar), Rodri (bass) and Manu (drums) adopt a nostalgic new wave-inspired sound in ‘Vecinos Fachos’. From the first chord, you are tossed back to the 1980s with a haziness floating about the soundscape. Yet, while there is a whimsical ambience to the floaty song, the pounding drums create a strong anchor in a kaleidoscopic sound. This is similar to their previous work; however, ‘Vecinos Fachos’ seems to be bolder in its eclecticism.

One aspect of Los Sindes that I find most entertaining is the incorporation of feisty Latin rock into soothing post-punk waves. The Spanish lyrics reinforce the band’s South American heritage; however, a REM meets The Cure silkiness hides behind their “rowdy twist”. Plus, there is freedom in the arrangement flowing through the melody and the poetic lyricism. Los Sindes expand on this “freedom” noting that “…there isn’t a specific ethos; we just write what we feel.”

Familiar and nostalgic, but with a fresh edginess, Los Sindes will easily send your soul soaring with ‘Vecinos Fachos’.
