Lord Sonny The Unifier – Don’t Be An Asshole (2022)
The brainchild of singer-songwriter Greg Jiritano, Lord Sonny The Unifier has been described by notable publication Edgar Allan Poets as a band that “…managed to create a unique sound blend mixing very different musical ingredients and making them coexist flawlessly”. In addition to that glowing review, Lord Sonny The Unifier is turning heads far beyond his North American borders with coverage from Less Than 1000 Followers, Music Arena GH, TJPL News, Sinusoidal Music, Send Me Your Ears, Indie O Clock and Eat This Rock. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Don’t Be An Asshole’.
Don’t be an asshole – words to live by. You can have an awful fashion sense, listen to the most appalling music, and eat those strange exotic dishes like fried silkworm or cat meat, but just don’t be an asshole. Following his single ‘Howl’, ‘Don’t Be An Asshole’ sees (or rather hears) Lord Sonny The Unifier adopt a classic rock sound with hard rock tones and a stab of psychedelic synths stabbing through the sonic tapestry. Retaining his vintage rock sound, there is a nostalgic flair to the song hinting at a mixture of David Bowie and Aerosmith; however, a contemporary Queens of the Stone Age heaviness is also evident in the arrangement making the song fresh and familiar.
The second single off his upcoming album America’s Newest Hitmaker, ‘Don’t Be An Asshole’ is an example of the wild promises and raw sentiments on the new album. When speaking about America’s Newest Hitmaker, Lord Sonny The Unifier shared that “this one was realised during Covid lockdown…my thoughts were racing, battered and howling…out of this questioning came more questions, some relief, much introspection and the realisation that, among other things, the politricks we’re subjected to are in the best interests of the already affluent. The only power we have over the oppressors is what we create in our lives and the love we share with other people. They don’t have that and we do…in this life, he who sees the most beauty wins” So, in the end, don’t be an oppressor, enjoy life and really don’t be an asshole.
