Longsman – Such Beautiful People (2021)

Longsman has taken us on a few journeys with his previous releases from the raw honesty of ‘By Your Side’ to the reflection on life that was the EP Standing on My Own. Now, he is taking us into the lo-fi single ‘Such Beautiful People’ which is all about unfaithful men. Tackling the mistreatment the partners of these men face, he weaves an honest and emotional tale.

The single continues the sound we have come to know from him as well as the clear honesty of his lyrics. Using a garage rock sound is a slight turn from the more pop stylings we last heard but connects back to the EP that hooked us to his sound.

‘Such Beautiful People’ grabs you with the intense thrumming of the guitar that tosses you into the foot-tapping beats. There is a lot of energy in the music that makes you want to jump around to the melody. The drums pound through your chest while the guitars shake up your insides. On the verses, there is a slight dip to the melody but the energy remains constant. The guitar riffs on the verses have a sad warble to them as they call out in the background.

The vocals are an interesting mixture of the high-octane energy of the melody and more subdued storytelling. This does give way to a rather anthemic chorus that makes you want to shout out with Longsman. The story detailed in the lyrics is easy to connect with as we have all at least seen someone who matches it. It is so easy to get lost in the music from the energetic melody to the captivating story of the lyrics.

Longsman tells the story of unfaithful men through the energetic tones of ‘Such Beautiful People’. The single makes you shiver and move to the music while the vocals carry the honest storytelling we have come to expect from him. The story of the lyrics is captivating in a familiar way while the vocals grip you and make you want to shout along.
