Liz Kennedy – Coyote (2025)
San Francisco-based singer-songwriter Liz Kennedy has used all her experience and talent to produce a truly poetic exploration of the effects and aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic with her latest single, ‘Coyote’.
I was instantly captivated by Kennedy’s vocal style, raw yet polished, reminiscent of the poetic maestro Nick Cave with hints of another great bard of the Americana scene, Bright Eyes frontman Connor Oberst. I especially liked how storytelling is front and centre of the piece, which, for me, is the marker of a great country song. The music composition complements the vocals perfectly, conveys a feeling of warmth and allows you to drift off and enjoy this wonderful tale of the effects of the pandemic and seismic shift we can all relate to. I thought the line “Right here in this afterlife” was a stark reminder that in many ways, nothing was the same post-lockdown.
When describing the inspiration for the track, Kennedy shared:
“It was the beginning of the Covid shutdown. The city was quiet. San Francisco. And at the top of my hill, Telegraph, I saw a coyote walking calmly across the intersection for the first time in 30 years, which really served as a reminder that nature never stops and can spark inspiration in the darkest of times and help you see the light in the world.”
One of the best things about doing what I do is finding new and exciting artists and strangely discovering someone late, like I have with Liz Kennedy, is even better. Since I have a lot of work to catch up on, and if you enjoy ‘Coyote’ as much as I did, there is plenty to sink your teeth in. So please join me and give this poetic genius the time she deserves. You won’t be disappointed.
In addition to the single, Liz Kennedy released an official music video for ‘Coyote’. You can view the video below and/or on Kennedy’s YouTube channel:
