Little Juke – Down The Rabbit Hole (2024)
More than merely a group of musicians coming together to make some music, Little Juke is a collective of artists with a penchant for moving, soul-stirring, ethereal sounds. Combining the talents of Alex Ohm (vocals and guitar), Stephen Ashford (guitar), Hannah Maiden (bass) and Tom Crowson (drums), the US-based Little Juke melds cultures, experiences and energies in a kaleidoscopic twirl of sound. Pushing the boundaries of genres far beyond conventionalism, one can hear hints of indie-rock, alternative pop, folk, synth-pop and electronics merging as one. Join us as we dive into their discography with the debut single ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’.
Perfectly titled, listening to Little Juke is like tumbling down the rabbit hole into a personal wonderland. Forget Alice, the White Rabbit, the March Hare and even the Chesire Cat, this is an intimate world of imagination as Little Juke immerse you in a vivid, almost palpable flood of music. Recorded and produced with Ryan Pinson, the track is soothing and sincere, but simultaneously includes a wave of tumultuous tragedy in the melody. So, in other words, you find yourself lost in a tranquil sonic ocean but with lingering turbulent tension intricately interwoven in the track.
While ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ is a harmonic symphony filled with piano, synths, drums and strings, its harmony lies within its obscurity. Each instrument has prominence presented in cinematic movements from one to the next; however, its overall cinematic glow lilts with indie rock inclinations and avant-garde sentiments.
So, lots of words but what is ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ at its core? Little Juke explains:
“’Down The Rabbit Hole’ is more than just a song, it is a cinematic journey from dismay to belief. With haunting melodies, driving rhythms, and soaring strings, the track invites listeners to explore the depths of its narrative and lose themselves in its intricate layers.”
